The first Iranian Special Olympics Floorball National Competition (National Team Selection)

The first national floorball competition for Special Olympics champions (athletes with intellectual disabilities, autism, and Down syndrome) was held with the efforts of the Iranian Special Olympics and in cooperation with the Iranian Floorball Association on June 14 and 15, 1403 at the Khireh Institute in Kahrizak. Considering the upcoming Special Olympics World Championships in Turin (Italy) in March of this year (Winter Olympics), a national floorball competition was held to prepare Special Olympics athletes. These competitions were held in continuation of the activities of the Iranian Floorball Association in developing this sport for people with intellectual disabilities in the country. Ali Dolu, the president of this association, in addition to holding a floorball coaching course and donating equipment for this sport to the representative centers of the Iranian Special Olympics, has so far succeeded in launching this sport in at least 9 provinces of the country in meetings under the auspices of the Welfare Organization or institutions licensed by the Ministry of Interior. In this period of the games, 42 female athletes and 85 male athletes, 30 female coaches and supervisors, and 23 male coaches and supervisors from 21 sports teams of 16 rehabilitation centers for people with special needs from 11 provinces of the country were present. A notable point in this event was the presence of female athletes with mental retardation, Down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder, which is a very good statistic of the participation of these loved ones and the launch of this discipline in the Iranian Special Olympics women's sport. God willing, with the cooperation of the country's sports authorities, the permission of the Overseas Council, and the approval of relevant institutions, the athletes selected for this event will be sent to the Special Olympics Winter Games; the 2025 Turin World Championships. Fortunately, this national event was held with the financial support of the National Benefactors' Assembly, the Roohi Charity Foundation, Karimkhan Diamond Tower, and the Kahrizak Charity Institute, and with the moral support of the Sports Association for People with Mental Disabilities, the Federation of Veterans and Disabled, and the technical management of the Iranian Floorball Association.
